What If?

The last time I was at “Five Loaves and Two Fish” in Wausau I picked up the book One Month to Live: Thirty Days to a no-regrets life by Pastors Kerry & Chris Shook.  I haven’t finished the whole book yet, but already I can see how it is challenging me to step back and refocus.

Many of us suffer from “someday” syndrome – always waiting for someday when your schedule calms down, your finances improve, or your kids grow up so you can begin to live the life you’ve always dreamed of.  Many of us say, “yeah I know I need to get my affairs in order, make out a will, etc, but I’ll get to it someday.”  Many say someday I’ll give more to church or I’ll help out with this or that ministry or I’ll start doing something for God that really matters.

But consider how your perspective would change if you found out you had just thirty days to live.  After the initial shock, you’d want to get your affairs in order and you’d probably resolve to squeeze all you could from the days that remain.  You’d love with abandon.  You’d focus on whatever you care about most.  You’d say the things that need to be said. You wouldn’t want to waste a single precious minute of whatever time you had left.  You’d throw yourself into becoming the person God intended you to be.

The reality is that no matter how hard we try to deny it, our time on earth is limited, our days are numbered.  So why not embrace that fact and begin making the most of our life right now.

What would happen if we tried to live more like we’re dying? Isn’t that how we were meant to live in the first place?  To discover what we’re made for and to utilize our unique gifts in the limited amount of time we’re given?

If you knew you had only one month to live, how would you life differently? I want to challenge you to live the next thirty days as if they were your last and write down what happens.  I’d love to hear about it!

Pastor Rebekah

P.S. Make it a priority to write a will if you don’t have one. This would be a great gift to your family should something happen to you.  “Are your Affairs in Order?” packets are available in the brochure rack.
